A Journey of Appreciation: Ankara EHS Community Celebrates Teachers
Ankara Elementary High School administrators launched Teacher Appreciation Week by honoring the unwavering dedication of the teachers during the Principals’ Community Engagement Tea. Dr. Marian Leverette and Ms. Cheryl Tibbs organized a travel-themed celebration, symbolizing the daily journey teachers embark on, guiding and inspiring students toward knowledge and growth. The teachers were specifically recognized and celebrated with daily gifts that weren't just tokens but heartfelt expressions of gratitude for each teacher's invaluable role in shaping the future. AEHS senior Jiya Garg delivered opening remarks that deeply resonated with the teachers, and captured the essence of the communities’ spirit, love, and appreciation for its teachers.

Maryam Razzakova, a sixth-grade student, celebrated AEH’s teachers by speaking about her experiences at school. Maryam stated, “You teachers are not just teaching us from textbooks; you’re helping the next generation become the leaders, innovators, and world-changers of tomorrow.”
Maureen Chezulu's Kindergarten class recited Langston Hughes' poem "My People," celebrating the diverse community of AEHS. Meanwhile, Cindy Weaver's first-grade students presented original fairy tales highlighting the nurturing and supportive nature of teachers. Both classes showcased the school's commitment to the social and emotional development of young, multilingual learners. Teachers were touched to see students, many of whom arrived with limited English skills, enthusiastically using their voices to show appreciation for their teachers at Ankara EHS.
What makes Ankara EHS truly stand out is its inclusive approach to honoring teachers, which involves inviting the community to participate in the celebrations. During the event, student presentations, parent speakers, and the keynote address by Lt. Col. Peters, the base commander, highlighted the significant impact teachers have on all aspects of the community. This underscores the importance of fostering, enhancing, and sustaining partnerships.
Lt. Col. Peters expressed her desire not only to celebrate AEHS teachers but also to recognize the educators who supported and guided her during her time as a student. As a proud graduate of Ramstein High School, she even remembered the names of those educators. Her gratitude serves as a powerful reminder of the crucial role teachers play in nurturing and educating future leaders.
The heartfelt remarks from the PTSA and SAC president as well as the base commander affirm what educators know to be true – that behind every successful student is a team of supportive and dedicated teachers.
