Ankara EHS Celebrates the Start of Winter Holiday Season with Spirit Week!

From December 1–5, the halls of Ankara EHS were filled with excitement and holiday cheer as students and staff came together to celebrate the start of the winter holiday season through Spirit Week! This annual tradition is a wonderful way to build community, spread joy, and share cultural experiences among our diverse student body.

Each day featured a unique theme that encouraged creativity and participation:

  • Winter Holiday Hat & Socks Day
Students showed off their festive accessories, from Santa hats to snowflake socks, spreading holiday spirit from head to toe.
  • Ugly Sweater Day
The more outrageous the sweater, the better! Glitter, lights, and quirky designs made this day unforgettable and full of laughter.
  • Pajama Day
Comfort and coziness ruled the day as students and teachers arrived in their favorite pajamas, turning classrooms into a sea of flannel and festive prints.
  • Candy Cane Day
Wearing red and white stripes brightened the school as students embraced the sweet theme inspired by the classic holiday treat.
  •  Wrap Day
Students transformed themselves into walking presents, complete with ribbons, bows, and colorful wrapping paper—a creative and fun finale to Spirit Week!

To make the celebration even more special, Dr. Leverette led the elementary students in learning popular Christmas carols, including “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Jingle Bells.” The sound of singing filled the school, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere. This activity was more than just fun—it gave students from different countries the chance to experience a beloved American holiday tradition, fostering cultural exchange and understanding.

Why Spirit Week Matters for Cultural Exchange

At Ankara EHS, Spirit Week is more than just dressing up—it’s an opportunity for students from diverse backgrounds to learn about and participate in American holiday traditions. By sharing music, festive activities, and creative expression, students gain a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity while building friendships and community. These experiences help create an inclusive environment where every student feels connected and valued.

Spirit Week at Ankara EHS was a wonderful reminder of the power of community and celebration. Thank you to all the students, staff, and families who helped make this week so memorable. Here’s to a joyful holiday season and a bright new year!
