ANKARA, Turkey — Ankara Elementary/High School announced the early retirement of principal Dr. Marian Leverette, honoring a leader whose years of service and commitment to students, staff and families have left a lasting impact on the school community.

Dr. Leverette was recognized during a schoolwide retirement assembly that brought together students, faculty and families. The program featured tributes from elementary and secondary students, along with remarks from teachers, Parent-Teacher Organization representatives and school leadership reflecting on her influence and leadership.

Throughout her tenure, Dr. Leverette was known for her servant-leadership approach and personal connections with the AEHS community. Colleagues and students alike noted her consistent focus on gratitude, kindness and support, whether through handwritten notes, thoughtful gestures or encouraging words shared daily across campus.

“It has been the honor of my career to serve the students, staff, and families of AEHS,” Dr. Leverette said. “Every day here reminded me why education is one of the most meaningful callings in the world.”

Students shared stories highlighting her approachability and care. One graduating senior recalled meeting Dr. Leverette on his first day of school when she stepped in as a substitute teacher, setting a welcoming tone that made the school feel supportive and safe from the outset. Under her leadership, students said they felt encouraged to pursue academic success while maintaining balance and well-being.

“The heart of this school isn’t the building — it’s the people,” Dr. Leverette said. “The joy in a child’s accomplishment, the resilience of our staff, and the kindness shown in the smallest moments are what made this place feel like home.”

Faculty members highlighted her embodiment of servant leadership, often referencing her ability to lead with humility and compassion. In remarks during the assembly, school leaders noted that Dr. Leverette consistently prioritized the needs of others and worked to ensure students and staff felt valued and supported.

“If I’ve done anything well, I hope it was making people feel valued,” Dr. Leverette said. “Leadership is never about titles; it’s about lifting others up.”

As she transitions into retirement, Dr. Leverette shared her plans to focus on rest, travel and time with family, while expressing her enduring connection to the AEHS community.

“Retirement isn’t goodbye — it’s simply a new rhythm,” she said. “I’m looking forward to what’s ahead, but AEHS will forever be a part of my heart.”

Ankara Elementary/High School thanked Dr. Leverette for her years of dedicated service and leadership, noting that her legacy of care, gratitude and service will continue to shape the school for years to come.
