AEHS Celebrates the Joy of Reading During Read Across Ankara Week
Ankara Elementary High School brought reading to life this March with a vibrant, community‑building celebration known as Read Across Ankara Week, held March 2–6, 2026. The week blended creativity, school spirit, and literacy‑focused activities, creating an atmosphere where students of all ages could connect with stories in fun and meaningful ways.
A Week of Themed Spirit Days
Each day of Spirit Week offered students a new way to express themselves while highlighting the joy and importance of reading. The week began with Crazy Socks & Shoes Day, filling classrooms and hallways with bold colors and mismatched patterns. Students embraced the playful start, showing that reading celebrations can be just as imaginative as the stories they love.
On Tuesday, students arrived wearing favorite hats or sporting Crazy Hair Day styles, adding extra character to the school day. Wednesday’s Pajama Day invited everyone to settle into the cozy, relaxed feeling that often accompanies a good book. These themed days created excitement and helped build a shared experience among students and staff.
Thursday encouraged imagination and artistry as students participated in Create Your Own Dr. Seuss Character Day, tying AEHS’s celebration to the widely recognized Read Across America tradition. Students sketched and created whimsical characters inspired by Dr. Seuss’s signature style, blending literacy and creativity into one joyful activity.
The week concluded with Green Day/School Spirit Day, where students wore green or AEHS spirit colors to show their pride and close out the reading celebration on a united, energetic note.
Family Reading Adventure Highlights Community Connection
One of the highlights of the week was the Family Reading Adventure, held the evening of March 5. Families were invited to campus to engage in shared reading experiences, explore books together, and participate in activities designed to foster a love of reading at home. This event strengthened school‑community relationships and reminded families that reading is a joyful, collaborative experience—one that extends far beyond the classroom.
A Celebration That Enriches the Entire School Community
Read Across Ankara Week succeeded not only in promoting literacy but also in building a sense of unity and enthusiasm across the school. Through creative dress‑up days, family engagement, and a shared celebration of stories, AEHS demonstrated how reading can inspire imagination, strengthen connections, and create lasting memories.
As students return to their regular routines, the spirit of the week continues to encourage them to pick up new books, discover new characters, and carry the joy of reading with them every day.
