Mr. Rebel Houston
Biography
Mr. Rebel Houston has dedicated more than 28 years to K–12 education, serving in a variety of leadership and student-support roles in international and Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) schools. His career began in 1993 at the International Community School in Bangkok, Thailand, where he and his wife were part of the founding team. Over the years, he has served as a secondary principal, school counselor, and director at international schools in Thailand and Japan.
In 2017, Mr. Houston joined the Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) at Vicenza High School through his wife’s sponsorship. From 2018 to 2023, he served the school community in several roles, including substitute teacher, school counselor, career practicum coordinator, and athletic director. In these positions, he worked closely with students, teachers, coaches, and families to support academic success, personal development, and a strong athletic program.
Originally from Childersburg, Alabama, Mr. Houston holds a bachelor’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Montevallo, a master’s degree in education with an emphasis in School Counseling from Azusa Pacific University, advanced certification in Educational Administration from the University of South Alabama, and an Education Specialist degree in Leadership from the University of Nebraska–Kearney.
Mr. Houston believes strongly in servant leadership, emphasizing collaboration, integrity, and empathy. He is committed to fostering a positive school culture where educators feel supported, families are engaged, and students are empowered to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Mr. Houston enjoys spending time with his wife of 32 years, who is also a DoWEA educator. Together they are proud parents of two adult sons who grew up as Third Culture Kids in Thailand.
